Trade Courses

Trade and vocational courses are an increasingly popular pathway for students who prefer hands-on careers and are looking for potential migration outcomes. Australia needs tradespeople across many sectors. Popular trade courses include Automotive Mechanic, Carpentry, Plumbing, Electrical Trades, Welding, and Painting & Decorating. These courses (typically Certificates III/IV or Diplomas) are offered at TAFEs and vocational colleges, and they combine classroom theory with extensive practical workshops.

Trades occupations are often listed on state skill shortage lists – for example, mechanics, electricians, and carpenters are needed in construction and maintenance industries. After completing a trade course and the required work experience, students can apply for the Temporary Graduate visa (Graduate Work stream) and potentially for skilled visas if their occupation remains in demand. Skilled trade professionals can have strong earning potential and a clear pathway to settle in Australia due to ongoing skill shortages in these fields.
